Moulaye Sarr is an outstanding painter from the younger generation of Gambian artists. His talent first emerged during primary school, where he began sketching cartoon characters and developing a passion for drawing. As a young man, he spent seven years in Senegal, immersing himself in the local art scene and training informally with professional artists. This experience broadened his vision and strengthened his artistic practice.

Working across a variety of media, Moulaye is best known for his two-dimensional abstract compositions in acrylic on canvas. He is also a gifted portrait painter and frequently explores pencil, charcoal, and sand in his work. From time to time, he experiments with textile design and other materials, reflecting his curiosity and versatility as an artist.

Today, Moulaye stands among the most promising voices of Gambia’s emerging art movement. His work bridges traditional techniques with contemporary exploration, marking him as a distinctive figure in West Africa’s evolving art landscape.
